abstract = "This article describes the method that was used to map the soil
loss vulnerability of the Jalap{\~a}o State Park, which is
located in the town of Mateiros, in the eastern part of the state
of Tocantins. The Jalap{\~a}o State Park is part of the Total
Protection Conservation Unit. The objective of this Unit is to
protect the natural resources of the region where it is located.
This objective limits the use of the natural resources. Only
indirect utilization is allowed. The Park is part of the
Jalap{\~a}o region, one of the priority areas for the Cerrado
conservation. It is an area of concentration of one of the largest
extensions of Cerrado still preserved in the country. The
Ecological-economic zoning methodology made it possible to set up
the soil loss vulnerability mapping through the use of the
Landsat-TM images and available thematic information (Geology,
Geomorphology, Pedology, Vegetation and Climate). The results of
the vulnerability mapping inserts the study area in a region that
is characterized by the morphonegesis/pedogenesis equilibrium,
prevailing the intermediate level of vulnerability. The use of the
vulnerability mapping, associated with other criteria, can guide
the public administrators on their decisions about the use of the
natural resources and also the managing of the space occupation.
Those decisions will ensure the conservation, the continuity of
the touristic exploration and the minimization of the impacts.",
